After a visit to Morgan’s Rock Eco-lodge, Steve Wilson and Lara Lee Brown asked Simplemente Madera to help furnish two new art hotels in Ohio, for their award-winning brand. The first project was in downtown Cincinnati, opposite to the Aronoff Center for the Arts and next door to Zaha Hadid’s Center for Contemporary Art, the 21c Museum Hotel Cincinnati is a dramatic revision of a historic 1912 hotel building.
The 156 guest rooms hotel project was designed by Deborah Berke and Partners, focused on saving the few traces of the original building, while bringing new spaces that created a contemporary, thoughtful and textured sequence of rooms. Custom furniture pieces where developed by Simplemente Madera for the hotel rooms and public areas. The historic spaces, were restored and refreshed with a contemporary color palette and the newly-created spaces carefully merged with new and original building providing a rich background for the art and the bespoke furniture pieces.
At the base of the building out of the original hotel lobby, the Metropole restaurant was created to reestablish the warmth and vitality of this historic gem. The space highlights original mosaic tile floors, arched windows, architectural details and handcrafted wood furniture designed by Simplemente Madera.
After completing the furniture for the 21c Museum Hotel in Cincinnati we were exited to participate in the new project in Bentonville, Arkansas. The hotel is a block off the town square and anchors one end of the woodland trails connecting to Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art Trails. With its own character, this hotel features a continuity of the bespoke room furniture from the 21C Hotel in Cincinnati and a One Tree Collection table made from fallen trees from hurricane Felix is located in the main entrance of the hotel, and serves as a check in desk.
